Introducing Our New Solar Design Studio

The Solar Design Studio's mission is to enable our client's vision of building a sustainable (green) home or building that produces its own energy and contributes to sustaining and enhancing the environment.

We are often approached by clients who want to build a new building or home or renovate an existing home and wish to use a renewable energy source, such as the sun.

The question becomes, "How can we develop a plan that turns our vision into reality?" The answer, "Through the Solar Design Studio" The Solar Design Studio's mission is to enable our client's vision of building a sustainable (green) home or building that produces its own energy and contributes to sustaining and enhancing the environment.

We utilize the experience of our team to walk our clients through an informed decision making process. The Solar Design Studio team is comprised of a collaborative team of experienced professionals that include:

The initial discussion involves thoughts and ideas, such as:

  • A passion to live off grid and be independent of all utility bills.
  • This is the last home we intend to live in and we have dreamed of using solar panels.
  • I want to build green.
  • I am interested in building an ECO home.
  • We are at a point in our life where we want to do the right thing.
  • I have always wanted a wind turbine, but I am not sure what one will do for me.
  • In the case of a commercial building the project may be pursuing green building objectives or LEEDs certification.
  • Reducing costs through energy efficiency.

During the course of this discussion we soon discover there are a number of other sustainable building options to consider:

  • Passive solar design.
  • Rain water recovery systems.
  • Gray water recovery systems.
  • Structural Insulated Panels or Insulate Concrete Forms.
  • Green Roofs.
  • Best wind choices.
  • Straw bail construction.
  • Natural lighting.
  • Interaction of passive solar and active solar (solar panel design).
  • Minimizing the impact to trees on the building site.

Dan Chiras of Sustainable Systems Designs, Inc. and author of "The New Ecological Home" defines green building in the following way. "Green building is about creating aesthetically appealing, high-quality, and durable homes and buildings that promote environmental sustainability, create a healthy interior environment, protect the health of occupants or workers, and are profitable to build, affordable and economical to operate."

All of the above are extremely important options for consideration, when it comes to using renewable energy and building green. A key point to consider is that a home or building is really an integrated system. An integrated design encapsulates the components listed above to produce a design that will perform as an integrated system so it achieves the maximum benefit.

The end result is a design that enables your vision and fits your budget.
